This section explains the main steps involved in setting up systems to manage your environmental impacts and some of the forms of recognition (standards, labels, reporting) available should your company wish to gain environmental credentials. Finally, initiatives such as corporate social responsibility, corporate governance and ethical investment are explained as these can overlap with environmental responsibility initiatives and they are being adopted by the screen production industry overseas and in New Zealand.

Environmental principles

A statement of values or principles is one of the first steps on the journey to corporate environmental responsibility. It signals management commitment and provides the basis for decision making and action. Environmental principles provide a framework for developing environmental criteria that can be integrated into existing business management processes and procedures no matter what size the company and at all levels within a company. Environmental principles may be developed to reflect the significant impacts of the company or you may decide to adopt the principles advocated by one of the many initiatives described throughout the toolkit.
